How Creative Convo Started

Usually, when I think of an idea and decide what are the things I would need to accomplish this idea, I would look around and get annoyed that I don’t have them. I was thinking since I have some time, I could get back to copywriting which I had done many years ago. It took a halt because I got busy with work and teaching English on the side, when I was based in Shanghai.

I have some idea of SEO and the likes but I want to make sure what I know is updated. So I watched some YouTube videos. Some creators have recommended writing articles on Linkedin and Medium, in case you do not have published samples of your work. I was thinking, do those things really hold more credit…than an actual blog? Well, here I am seeking for advice, so I might as well take it. I didn’t have any post, not even a repost on linkedin but I started with one post, then it motivated me to do another one. So here I am with 5 articles after one month. I’ll link one example here.

Luckily, I got one writing gig. I thought of getting more, so I created more samples. However, that sole gig I had proved to be more than enough at the moment because they are just starting and therefore require more articles than I could even write even if I did this full time.

I used to be super good at multi-tasking…like most things at once. Maybe my boyfriend influenced me on some level…but nowadays, I try to do one thing at a time and do it well. Gosh, I think like a man. It IS his influence!

So now that writing part is ok. My next thought was my YouTube channels. Yes I have two because one is in English and sometimes French. And the other one is in Filipino. I have always wanted to share some useful information to others but I was always unhappy with the result.

But you know when you’re in a hurry and you just want to get the answers and don’t really pay attention to the video and all that. That’s me with cooking recipes lol. And this Filipino channel for pinoy recipes, Panlasang Pinoy, has thought of every recipe you can imagine or remember from your childhood. I wanna be the Panlasang Pinoy version but for fashion or sewing related stuff.

It is easy to create content for my Filipino channel. Not because of the language…English is just as easy. Hmmm, perhaps because as a Filipino, I know what other Filipinos would search for. So I create my content based on that.

Now, for my English channel. I don’t know because there are tons of sewing or fashion channel. What could I offer that is useful as well. Then I remembered watching my friend Carola’s interviews and I truly enjoy them. She even featured me once before.

Then the thought left me as I got in my daily tasks. I was searching on ahrefs what do people usually search for related in my field and I saw that they ask, how to be a fashion designer. Well, I’m not Gaultier lol but I am one, so I did a video about it. Like, if you did not go to school, how could you get started. After all, that’s all we need sometimes, a start.

As I was making this…I remember my colleagues back in Shanghai where I worked as a Fashion Design lecturer for 8 years. I am sure they have things to add on this list too. Also, my students who spent countless nights not sleeping just to finish their collection. Then I remember Adidas job emails that I regularly get. It says, cool people know other cool people….if you know someone who might be interested in these posts, please send them this email.

And I always chuckle, when I read that line…yep I’m cool, and I do know plenty of cool people. That’s when the lightbulb lit up somewhere in my head. Yes, I DO know cool people. I also got inspired by Mayim Bialik’s YouTube channel where they discuss a lot of personal issues, mental health and all that. And I always find them very helpful and sort of a stress-reliever.

So that’s how it started. I asked some close friends and they agreed. I hope I get to interview other creative people too even if they are strangers or as they say, friends you haven’t met yet.
