Musée Yves Saint Laurent

It was 29th of January, 2022, I knew that the YSL exhibits would start that day. It was just the first time that Yves Saint Laurent has presented his first Haute Couture Collection, 60 years ago. If you see his story on film, you will see how important this day is.

I decided to go to Musée Yves Saint Laurent first simply because this is where it all started. Also, I have never been to this museum. It was recently reopened especially for this important day.

The first thing we will see is the room filled with Yves Saint Laurent’s drawings.

One drawing that has caught my eye was this Pop-art dress that I’ve also seen on the Cinematheque event done by Jean Paul Gaultier. It was about his designs that were shown in films through the years. They also featured clothes made by other designers, including this one from YSL that was worn in the film Blow-up.

I was also happy to see samples of his patterns in one section of the room. How they arranged the patterns, how they labeled them. As a fashion student in France, I was overjoyed to see that I understood the labels on the patterns. One other reason why you should study Fashion in France and also why you should learn French.

There were also the samples of his previous designs in muslin fabrics.

Since this is a museum, it is quite easy to forget that he once worked here and actually lived here. I don’t know, but seeing a person’s work place just give me the chills.

Here he was working

And here is how the place looks like now

See that large green folder? We can still buy those types from different bookstores or art supply shops in Paris.

Wish I dressed up better when I went to YSL’s place but honestly can’t be bothered as it was pretty cold that time also the focus is on his work not really on me. I’m already happy with a little selfie.

I hope I get lucky enough to visit the other Yves Saint Laurent exhibits in the rest of the museums in Paris. Will keep you posted!
