Can We Really Sew Anything?

So, someone asked me recently to make samples. Upon seeing the picture, I wanted to say no, immediately. But I’m like, i’ve been sewing easy projects all this time…where is the point that I try. I’ve been googling articles that speak about this…but none of them spoke from a tailor/sewer’s perspective. So here is mine.

One of the details involve a welt pocket. Oh boy, the last time I did that was back in fashion school at ESMOD in Paris. Of course, I never design any of my clothes with a welt pocket. It’s even only recently that I’ve added a super easy side pocket on my skirts…because at work, they ask me to have a walkie talkie, and I need pockets at least for that.

I remember back in the day when I only allowed myself to sew a table cover, my sofa cover, so they will match. I would buy the fabrics from Ikea. And I remember my friends coming over and asking me where I got the fabrics…why they’re matching to my other IKEA plates. When I was in Shanghai, you can call me Miss Ikea…I have almost everything and am so obsessed. LOL.

But then, I needed a dress for an event, and the thing with me, I have a particular taste and usually the ones I really like are super expensive. My first dress was so badly sewn that I’m pretty sure it won’t stand the washing machine. But I was proud of it because it’s my dress! I didn’t keep it though. I throw it the next day.

So, fast forward, I’m faced with the same dilemma. And I’m like…I might as well give it a shot. I will show you the finished product when I’m done. If you want you can follow my stories on instagram: sewbibicheparis

So here’s a welt pocket, as my project requires one. I did it in one of my scraps. It’s not as difficult as I thought but I’m so nervous doing it on my actual project. I will post a tutorial later when I’m done.

I’m actually blogging now, before I do the project, in order to calm myself down and to do it faster. Yesterday, I was sewing like a turtle in order to be careful. But I’m like, Maris, you have loads to do, this is insane, sew faster or at least in normal pace!!! Do you feel the same way? If you do, please leave a comment.

Whew, you’re such a good listener. I’ll go back to my sewing now. Thank you!!!

PS. For my French readers, my apologies if I have not written in French lately. I was so busy and writing in English is the fastest and easiest way for me…however, I am still committed to improving and practicing my french, and I will do a backread and rewrite some posts again.
